Con motivo de la elección del primer Papa Latinoamericano, Jorge Mario Bergoglio como Sumo Pontífice, Manos del Uruguay quiso felicitarlo y de alguna forma estar más cerca de él.

On the occasion of the election of the Latin American Cardinal Bergoglio as Supreme Pontiff, Manos del Uruguay wanted to congratulate him and somehow be closer to him.

Para eso, se nos ocurrió hacerle llegar un producto hecho con nuestras manos, con todo el cariño y devoción que ponemos cuando hacemos nuestro trabajo.

We then thought of sending him a present, created with our hands, made with the love and devotion we always put in our work.

Elegimos la manta “Tierra Mojada” que fue inspirada en las texturas y colores de nuestra Tierra y que fue realizada en la Cooperativa Artesanal Soriano (CAS) por artesanas de las localidades de Egaña y José Enrique Rodó. Sus materiales son la pura lana hilada en rueca y la lana en colores naturales.

We chose the blanket “Tierra Mojada” which was inspired by the textures and colors of our land. This blanket was knitted at the Soriano Artisanal Cooperative (CAS) by artisans of Egaña and José Enrique Rodo villages. It is made from natural color´s pure wool and Criolla wool, hand spun on spinning wheel.

Junto con la manta le mandamos una tarjeta con una frase que creemos que representa especialmente a nuestra Organización: “No tenemos en nuestras manos la solución para los problemas del mundo, pero para los problemas del mundo tenemos nuestras manos”.

Along with the blanket we sent a card with a phrase that we believe especially represents our Organization: «We don’t have in our hands the solution to the problems of the world, but to face the problems of the world we have our hands».

Para hacerle llegar el presente fue fundamental la ayuda de Magdalena Pérez del Castillo, asesora de Manos del Uruguay, del embajador Diego Zorrilla de San Martín (socio adherente) y del embajador del Uruguay ante la Santa Sede, Daniel Ramada.

For delivering this present, Magdalena Pérez del Castillo´s aid was fundamental along with the the generous support of Ambassador Diego Zorrilla de San Martín (adherent partner) and the Uruguayan Ambassador to the Vatican, Prof. Daniel Ramada.

La alegría y el reconocimiento fueron intensos al saber que el Papa Francisco no solo había apreciado mucho el regalo, sino que también posó en una fotografía con él, y según una Nota Verbal desde la Santa Sede a la embajada uruguaya en el Vaticano, el papa “bendice cordialmente a los trabajadores que confeccionaron la prenda de vestir y a sus respectivas familias”.

Our happiness and recognition were intense. Pope Francisco not only had appreciated very much the gift, but also had a picture taken with it of this special moment. According to a Verbal Note from the Vatican Head office to the Uruguayan embassy, the Pope “blesses cordially the work team who made the blanket and their respective families”.

Esta manta también obtuvo un Reconocimiento de Excelencia en Artesanía por la Unesco, a través de un concurso que la organización realiza cada dos años.

This blanket also had obtained the UNESCO Recognition of Excellence in Craftsmanship, through a contest that the organization carries out every two years.
