Manos del Uruguay, Francis Mallmann  y el invierno Patagónico  se encontraron junto al fuego de la estufa en La Soplada, la nueva cabaña del reconocido chef del Gourmet desde donde comienza cada recorrido gastronómico de su nuevo ciclo de programas Vientos del Sur.

Manos del Uruguay, Francis Mallmann and the Patagonian winter met around the fire at “La Soplada” [The Blown One], the new cabin of the Gourmet Channel renowned chef, point of departure of each gastronomic tour of his new program season Vientos del Sur [Winds from the South”].

Francis construyó su cabaña enteramente de madera. La Soplada es el nombre que eligió darle a esta casa que el viento ya tumbó tres veces.  Está escondida entre la belleza de la cordillera, lagos y nieves; sin caminos que conduzcan a ella, más que la huella de esquíes y motos de nieve. Este rincón remoto está ubicado en la alta montaña de la provincia de Río Negro, Argentina, muy cerca de Bariloche.

Francis built his hut entirely of wood. “La Soplada” is the name he chose for this house, which the wind has already blown down three times. It is hidden among the beauty of the mountains, the lakes and the snow; no roads lead to it, except for the track of the skis and snowmobiles. This remote spot is located in the high mountains of the province of Río Negro, Argentina, very close to Bariloche.

 

“El regreso al invierno no es poca cosa, pasamos del llano y el barro a las alturas de la cordillera. Entre estas diferencias de altura a medida que sube la temperatura puede descender abruptamente. Es necesario tener más abrigo.” Francis Mallmann.

“The return to the winter is no small thing; we passed from the plain and the mud to the heights of the mountains. These height differences as we go up can make the temperature fall abruptly. It is necessary to wear warmer clothes.” Francis Mallmann.

Manos del Uruguay decoró los rincones de esta cabaña, pensando cada textura y cada color. Nuestros hilados y telas cubren las ventanas y sillones que rodean la estufa a leña y son el abrigo que Francis ofrece a sus invitados. 

Manos del Uruguay decorated the corners of this cabin, thinking of every color and every texture. Our yarns and fabrics cover the windows and armchairs that surround the fireplace and are the shelter that Francis offers his guests.

Diseñamos los ponchos y mantas para quienes visitan La Soplada, las cortinas para los enormes ventanales que enmarcan las montañas y los almohadones para los sillones donde se comparten vinos y panes caseros. Combinamos bordados y tramas simples, como las preparaciones de Francis, que se caracterizan por el retorno a los ingredientes básicos y cotidianos,  utensilios clásicos y sabores simples con un giro gourmet. Todos los tejidos fueron realizados en lana y telados artesanalmente en nuestras cooperativas usando los colores naturales de la fibra y sumando pequeños acentos rojos.

We designed the “ponchos” and blankets for those who visit La Soplada, the curtains for the huge windows framing the mountains, and the cushions for the sofas where wines and homemade breads are shared. We combined the embroideries and simple weaves, like Francis’ dishes, which are characterized by the return to the basic and everyday ingredients, classic utensils, and plain flavors with a gourmet touch. All the textiles were made from wool and hand-knitted in our cooperatives, using the fiber natural colors and adding small red accents.

“Esta ruta sur desde muy jóvenes tuvo una mística enraizada en el infinito, como comprender sus costales hirsutos, sus arbustos de viento, su aridez implacable? Sus pueblos abrazados por el viento? Y nosotros? que éramos hijos de los lagos y las nieves? Pronto reconocimos en su fisonomía y en el ajetreo de sus huellas  otra belleza-como la de aquella mujer que se esconde debajo de un vestido grande y que al desnudarla nos deja absortos con sus líneas y contornos. Siempre es bueno aquel secreto”  Francis Mallmann.

“Since we were very young, this southern route has had a mysticism rooted in the infinite…how to understand its hairy sacks, its shrubs of wind, its relentless aridity? Its towns embraced by the wind? And us? who were the children of the lakes and the snow? We soon recognized in its physiognomy and in the coming and going of its tracks another beauty, as the one of the woman who hides herself under a large dress, and who, when undressing, leaves us amazed by the beauty of her lines and contours. That secret is always good”.  Francis Mallmann.
