Todas la mañanas a las 4AM, Cintia recorre en bicicleta las pocas cuadras que separan su casa de la cooperativa y comienza su jornada de trabajo.

Hace dos años que Cintia Batalla es parte de Manos del Uruguay, en la cooperativa trabaja junto a Ana tiñendo hilados. Disfruta de aprender las técnicas del oficio del teñidor. Su hilado preferido es el Alegría, en especial los colores divertidos y muy saturados.

Every morning at 4AM Cintia Batalla rides her bike through  the few blocks between her house and the cooperative and starts her daily work.

She has been a part of Manos del Uruguay for two years, as part of the dyeing team with Ana. She enjoys learning the dyeing skills and techniques. Her favorite yarn is Alegría,  she loves its bright, fun colors.

 

Cintia es fuerte, bien dispuesta y sobretodo alegre. Con Ana se llevan muy bien y forman un buen equipo. «Nos reímos toda la mañana» dice divertida Cintia.  Se les va el tiempo entre madejas, risas, mates y las riquísimas torta fritas que la mamá de Cintia prepara.

Cintia tiene 25 años y vive con su esposo Domingo (Mingo) en Dragón. Todo el mundo sigue llamando así  a Plácido Rosas, un pueblo pequeñito de Cerro Largo de 500 habitantes, aunque el nombre cambió hace años.

Cintia is strong, hardworking and very joyful.  She and Ana make a great team, “we laugh all morning” says Cintia bemused. Time flows between skeins, laugher, mates and the delicious torta fritas that Cinita’s mother cooks.

Cintia is 25 and lives with her husband Domingo (Mingo) in Dragón.  Although that’s Pácido Rosas old name, everybody keeps calling the small 500 people village, that way.

La vida allí es muy tranquila, todos se conocen, las puertas quedan abiertas y los niños juegan sueltos con sus bicis por las calles. Los principales pasatiempos son ir al río Tacuarí o alentar al cuadro local de fútbol, el Deportivo Dragón, que juega en la liga del pueblo vecino, Vergara.

Life is very calm at Dragón, everybody knows each other, doors are open all day and kids play free with their bikes in the streets. The local pastime is to enjoy the Tacuarí riverside and cheer for the town’s soccer team when they play at the neighbor village, Vergara, league.

 

El grupo de Dragón existe desde los años 80 y forma parte de la cooperativa C.A.U.V.A. que también incluye al grupo de la cercana Rio Branco. En Río Branco se hila a rueca y en Dragón se tiñe a mano, se acondicionan las madejas y se tejen alfombras en un gran telar.

Dragón workshop dates back to the 1980’s and is part of the C.A.U.V.A. cooperative that also includes the group of nearby Rio Branco. At Rio Branco we hand spin and in Dragón we dye yarn and weave rugs in a huge loom.
