We are pleased to start this new column that showcases our international distributors with Shcmeichel Partner, our exclusive distributor for Germany, Austria and Switzerland since 2014.

For this post we talked with our friend Britta Kremke, Schmeichel’s founder and director, a pasionate and energetic business woman, with a great eye for special yarns.

Estamos muy contentos de presentarles a Schmeichel-Partner,  la compañía que distribuye los hilados  Manos del Uruguay en Alemania, Suiza y Austria  desde 2014.  Para ello le pedimos a nuestra amiga y fundadora de Schmeichel-Partner, Britta Kremke que nos cuente un poco sobre su negocio y su experiencia vendiendo Manos.

Schmeichel-Partner was founded in 2014 when we realized an interest of retailers in the EU to be able to order from interesting, unusual overseas brands without having to deal with customs, high shipping costs and lots of paperwork. So we decided to start distributing several wonderful brands from South America, USA, South Africa and among them Manos del Uruguay.
Myself, Britta Kremke (56), I grew up in a yarn store which my mother started in Hamburg when I was six. I crocheted my first sweater at the age of 8, was Germanys youngest yarn store owner at the age of 21, closed the shop when I was 22, studied English and Business Economics and worked as an international project manager and in marketing for many years. Now being able to work and earn my salary with my favourite material – yarns – is a dream-come-true for me!

We are based in the North of Germany, right between Hamburg and Berlin in a very rural area, close to a natural reserve with deers and foxes visiting us regularly.

Schmeichel-Partner fué fundado en 2014 cuando nos dimos cuenta del interés de los minoristas en la UE por poder ordenar de marcas extranjeras interesantes e inusuales sin tener que lidiar con aduanas, altos costos de envío y mucho papeleo. Así que decidimos comenzar a distribuir varias marcas maravillosas de Sudamérica, Estados Unidos, Sudáfrica y entre ellas Manos del Uruguay.

Yo, Britta Kremke (56), crecí en una tienda de hilados que mi madre comenzó en Hamburgo cuando tenía seis años. Tejí en crochet mi primer sweater a los 8 años, a los 21 años fui la dueña más joven de una tienda de hilados de Alemania, cerré la tienda cuando tenía 22 años, estudié inglés y economía empresarial y trabajé como gerente de proyectos internacionales y en marketing durante muchos años. ¡Ahora poder trabajar y ganar mi salario con mi material favorito, los hilos, es un sueño hecho realidad!

Estamos ubicados en el norte de Alemania, justo entre Hamburgo y Berlín, en una zona muy rural, cerca de una reserva natural con ciervos y zorros que nos visitan regularmente.

My own passion for yarns definately shapes the philosophy of the company and I think my own experiences as a store owner allows me to easily step into the shoes of my retail customers and understand their needs and how we can support them in the best way – I hope! Our team is small, only 7 people, but all are committed to full customer satisfaction, which is our main aim.

We noticed the outstanding colors and yarns of Manos del Uruguay on the trade show in Cologne, I think it was in 2013. At that time Manos was working with another partner to distribute them in Europe, but I really loved their yarns. When I saw the opportunity that they may be interested in working with me, I contacted them right away and was proud when they decided to enter a cooperation with me.

Mi propia pasión por los hilos definitivamente define la filosofía de la empresa y creo que mis propias experiencias como propietaria de una tienda me permiten ponerme fácilmente en el lugar de mis clientes minoristas y comprender sus necesidades y cómo podemos apoyarlos de la mejor manera. Nuestro equipo es pequeño, solo 7 personas, pero todos están comprometidos con la plena satisfacción del cliente, que es nuestro objetivo principal.

Notamos los increíbles colores e hilados sobresalientes de Manos del Uruguay en la feria comercial en Colonia, creo que fue en 2013. En ese momento, Manos estaba trabajando con otro socio para distribuirlos en Europa, pero realmente me encantaron sus hilados. Cuando vi la oportunidad de que pudieran estar interesados ​​en trabajar conmigo, los contacté de inmediato y me sentí orgulloso cuando decidieron cooperar conmigo.

It is the Manos-colors that draw people into stores, it is the touch of the yarns that inspires people and it is the story of Manos that convinces knitters to buy. Today knitters knit for pleasure, not because they need clothes. So they want to work with material that looks good, inspires them and gives them the feeling to do something worthy.

Famous Designers like Martina Behm or Isabell Kraemer have discovered Manos yarns and feel inspired by the colors and materials and therefore published a number of patterns in Manos yarns. We generously support designers with yarn if they want to design and promote the yarns.

About 2 years ago, Martina Behm chose Manos Marina for her Strickmich!-Club and developed the color „Martinas Berries“ together with Cecilia from Manos. During the color development process I received 2 sample skeins. One I sent to Martina, the other one I kept and it was lying on my desk for many weeks. And every time I felt frustrated or annoyed about something, I just grabbed and squeezed that skein of Marina in this wonderful color to remind me, why I am doing this business.

Son los colores Manos los que atraen a las personas a las tiendas, es el toque de los hilos lo que inspira a las personas y es la historia de Manos lo que convence a los tejedores de comprar. Hoy los tejedores tejen por placer, no porque necesiten ropa. Entonces quieren trabajar con materiales que se vean bien, los inspire y les dé la sensación de hacer algo digno.

Diseñadoras famosas como Martina Behm o Isabell Kraemer han descubierto los hilos Manos y se sienten inspiradas por los colores y materiales y publicaron una serie de patrones en los hilos Manos. Apoyamos generosamente a los diseñadores con lanas si quieren diseñar y promover los hilados.

Hace aproximadamente 2 años, Martina Behm eligió Manos Marina para su Strickmich! -Club y desarrolló el color «Martinas Berries“ junto con Cecilia de Manos. Durante el proceso de desarrollo del color recibí 2 madejas de muestra. Una la envié a Martina, la otra la guardé y estuvo sobre mi escritorio durante muchas semanas. Y cada vez que me sentía frustrada o molesta por algo, simplemente tomaba y apretaba esa madeja de Marina en este maravilloso color para recordarme de por qué estoy en este negocio.
