The purpose of this post is to show you our new colors for Fall 2020 and tell you a little bit about the development process.

For Fall we introduce new colors in our more «winterly» yarns: Franca, Maxima, Silk Blend, Alegría, Alegría Grande, Serpentina.

Each yarn has a «personality» and accordingly the color development process is a bit different for all of them. We start by choosing an inspiration or theme and go from there, but the idea might change during the sample dyeing.

En este post les queremos mostrar nuestros nuevos colores para Invierno 2021 y contarles un poco del proceso de desarrollo de los colores. Para Invierno trabajamos con nuestros hilados mas cálidos: Franca, Maxima, Silk Blend, Alegría, Alegría Grande y Serpentina.

Cada hilado tiene una personalidad propia y el proceso de desarrollo es un poco diferente en cada caso. Empezamos con una idea o inspiración que se va modificando durante el proceso.

FRANCA

Franca is a super chunky rowing yarn, 100% merino superwash. This content and also the chubbiness of the yarn, allows us to dye fun colors in creative ways, because the color effects really stand out.

This time the starting point was a new technique that we have been working on that allows us to create a dotted skein. It is not splattered, the dots are rather organized and neat (as much as it is possible in hand dye of course). We had used it for our really popular Party color (F9050), and wanted to continue experimenting but decided to go more sober.

So we created these very clean skeins with an ecru background and one single color spots. We started by applying black, then a burgundy, another in a blue/teal hue and a rich ocher.

They are so graphic! And once you have white with black you want to have black with white, right?We used a different technique to achieve the colores spots over a black background. So weended up making a black background friend for each of the colors. Resulting in 4 more beautifully dramatic colors.

This is how they look knitted up. And I think it is so much fun to combine either the friendly pairs or all the whites or blacks together.

Franca es nuestro hilado mecha 100% merino superwash, esta composición y el grosor del hilado hacen que los efectos de color realmente se luzcan.

En esta ocasión el punto de partida fue una nueva técnica para aplicar el color que nos permite lograr lunares, no salpicados, si no organizados y prolijos. La usamos anteriormente en nuestro color F9050 Party (que ha resultado súper popular) y ahora queríamos seguir experimentando pero con un estilo más sobrio.

A partir de la madeja cruda, aplicamos gotas de un solo color: negro, bordó, ocre o azul petróleo. El resultado es muy gráfico y diferente.

Al tener blanco con negro quisimos hacer negro con lunares blancos, para eso recurrimos a una técnica diferente, con la cual teñimos el negro, «reservando» espacios donde se ve el fondo. Variando el color de fondo logramos unas combinaciones dramáticas de negro y lunares de los mismos colores que ya habíamos usado sobre crudo.

ALEGRIA

Alegría is our wildly popular sock yarn, and while we love to develop crazy space dye colors in it, this time we needed new semi solids.

We already had decided we were going to dye Pollen in Alegría because we needed a strong, beautiful yellow in it. So we build up arround Pollen. We wanted to make a mini palette that felt modern and confident, so we first went for a lilac Lavender, this is an uncommon color that is super trendy right now and looks really great with yellow. From there all the other colors sort of came naturally: the shy, modestly girly Mauve, the extravagant XOXO, the super-classic-that-feels-new Olive. And we also wanted a fresh blue to replace Wedgwood, so we tried different hues until we had the perfect one: Lapis Lazuli. Ice Melt, one of those hard to define colors, a moody mix of grey, blue and green.

Alegría es nuestro popular hilado para tejer medias, conocido por sus locos colores, pero en esta ocasión tocó agregar colores semi sólidos.

El punto de partida fue el color Pollen (que ya existe en otros hilados) por que sentíamos que la carta de Alegría precisaba un amarillo potente y atractivo. Luego fuimos construyendo la paleta al rededor de Pollen. Empezamos por Lavender, un lila audaz, para lograr una combinación moderna e inesperada. Luego fueron llegando Mauve, un rosa tímido y apagado, el extravagante rosa fluo XOXO, Olive, un verde súper clásico que se siente novedoso y Lapis Lazuli, exactamente el tono de azul que necesitamos en este momento. Ice melt es uno de esos colores difíciles de definir, a medio camino entre un gris, azul o verde.

ALEGRIA GRANDE

Alegría Grande is an Alegría spin off so we try to keep both color cards connected. In this case we choose Lapis Lazuli, Olive, Mauve from the Alegría palette and added Leo to the mix.

Butt since we are so thrilled about the Franca’s spotted colors we decided to try them here too. We made back spots on white (Dalmatian), white spots on black (Skunk) , then purple on black (Gleam) and finally we mixed a bit of everything in Ushuaia, a stunning dramatic color that everybody loves.

Como Alegría Grande es el hermano mayor de Alegría, las dos cartas de colores son similares. En este caso elegimos algunos de los nuevos colores de Alegría: Lapis Lázuli, Olive, Mauve pero con el toque mostaza de Leo. Como estamos tan encantados con nuestros nuevos colores de Franca, decidimos usar esa técnica aquí también, tenemos a Dalmatian, Skunk, Gleam y una mezcla de todo esto que llamamos Ushuaia y que nos encanta.

FINO

Fino is our merino/silk fingering yarn. The silk gives this yarn a nice glow, a certain elegant look that sets the tone for the color card. We don’t do any splattered or space dye colors here. Only sophisticated soft colors with the organic variations of a water color painting.

For Fall2020, we went for a neutral theme, all colors are a mix of grey with another color. We have 4 new colors: Tea Leaves, a mineral mix of aqua green and grey; Whalebone, a subtle fading from ivory to soft pink; Fog: pearl grey and pale blue and Scèance as mystic and mysterious as its name, with a mauve tint.

Fino es una mezcla de merino y seda que tiene un hermoso brillo y elegancia naturales. Aquí no buscamos colores estridentes ni combinaciones inusuales, los colores de Fino son sofisticados y sutiles como las acuarelas.

Para esta temporada elegimos trabajar con variantes del gris, mezclándolo con otros colores.

Tenemos 4 nuevos colores: Tea Leaves: una mezcla mineral de verdes aqua y grises, Whalebone: un degradé del marfil al rosa, Fog: nubes de gris y celeste y Scèance: un lila místico y misterioso.

SILK BLEND & CABRITO

Silk Blend is such a classic yarn, that doesn’t need a great fuss, so we turned to semi solids and space dye colors here. Think of a warm wheat field , with its pikes ripe. Harvest is a soft orange, Girasol a rich yellow and Clafoutis brings the freshness of cranberries. Floral is a warm, golden space dye that compliments them. While the colder La perla and Opera bring in some cold and muted contrast.

Para Silk Blend creamos un conjunto de colores semi sólidos y multicolores, suaves, atemporales, elegantes. Inspirados en un campo de trigo, con sus espigas maduras, doradas. Tenemos a Harvest, un naranja suave y alegre, Girasol, un amarillo rico, intenso pero calmo a la vez, Clafoutis tiene la frescura de las frambuesas y Floral es un multicolor que los reúne a todos en una madeja. Mientras que La perla y Opera ofrecen una contraparte en el extremo más frío del espectro, con suaves grises, celestes y rosas.

Silk Blend is a beautiful yarn by itself but it is even better when paired with Cabrito, our Kid Mohair lace yarn. We decided to dye some of Silk Blend colors also in Cabrito, so you can make a no-brain matching. But since hand dyeing is so wonderful, the colors don’t look exactly the same in Cabrito, they are different enough to add an extra layer of richness. So, we have La Perla, Opera and Floral in Cabrito and we also have Curaçao, a Caribbean mix of blues that surely lift your mood when you knit with it.

Silk Blend es hermoso en si mismo pero es todavía mejor si lo juntamos con Cabrito, nuestro Kid Mohair. Teñimos algunos de los colores de Silk Blend en Cabrito, no quedan exactamente iguales, ya que son hilados bien diferentes, y esa pequeña diferencia le agrega riqueza y profundidad al tejido. Tenemos La Perla, Opera y Floral en Cabrito y también la adición de Curaçao, una alegre y caribeña mezcla de azules.

MAXIMA

I must confess Maxima was the most difficult task. Quite frankly when you already have such a wonderful and wide color card, it is hard to find something that is missing! So we are introducing only three amazing shades: Lapis Lazuli, Olive and Opera.
